Treachery Surf Trip
March 10th, 2010
Well well well as promised I’ll finally start telling all you SUK fan’s about my Aussie trip. Sorry it has taken me soo long but unfortunately I broke my waterproof camera on the second day of my trip!
So last weekend I embarked on my second trip to Treachery Head it’s about 4 hours north of Sydney and well worth the trip in my opinion. It picks up all the southerly swell and is sheltered from the annoying N/E wind that has been chopping up the waves for the majority of this trip.
There is a little campsite right in the dunes about 5 mins walk from the beach. Check out this site for more info: http://www.treacherycamp.com.au/
The weather report was insisting that we were in for a wet and stormy stay, but the waves were on so I was in there like swim wear!!! After a very wet drive down the weather seemed to clear up, apparently due to Treachery being on a headland lots of the land based weather systems pass it by. This is really worth remembering as we had spectacular weather on the Saturday even though the forecast was hideous.
The main peak was just to the left of the path leading out of the dunes, it works through the entire tidal range although can be a little fat on high. I took out my trusty W.E Elegance model which as you can see went like a dream. The wave can be pretty fast at low so be prepared to pull in and take a few hammerings!
Anyway I hope that you find this useful and that you will take some time to check out Trech if you are in the area.
